"The building that David Chipperfield has designed to house Barbara Hepworth's work combines tough formal precision with a playful organicism that exactly complements Hepworth's indomitable spirit as a pioneering woman sculptor" - Antony Gormley
The Hepworth Wakefield has been designed by one of the UK’s leading architects, David Chipperfield CBE.
In 2007, David Chipperfield Architects won the most prestigious prize in UK architecture – the RIBA Stirling Prize – for its design of the Museum of Modern Literature in Marbach, Germany.
The Hepworth Wakefield will take its place alongside this and David Chipperfield Architects’ portfolio of other impressive projects, including the River and Rowing Museum in Henley-on-Thames, and the America’s Cup Building ‘Veles e Vents’ in Valencia, which was also shortlisted for the 2007 Stirling Prize.
