The Hepworth Wakefield

Galleries and Collections

Celebrating the District's special cultural heritage ...

A central gallery will feature the unique collection of 30 of Barbara Hepworth's original plaster sculptures that have been gifted to the city by the Hepworth Family Trust.

Pride of place will go to Henry Moore's Reclining Figure, (1936) carved in Elmwood and Barbara Hepworth's early carvings, including Mother and Child (1934) and Pierced Hemisphere (1937).

This is part of celebrating Wakefield District’s special cultural heritage as the birthplace of modern British sculpture, as both Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore were born and went to school here, in Wakefield and Castleford respectively.
