This gallery illustrates the nature of Barbara Hepworth's working environment.
It contains a range of original material including maquettes, part-finished works, tools, photographs and objects of inspiration from her studios in St Ives.
These items supported by graphic panels and a range of interpretive media tells the story behind the creation of the plaster and other sculptures featured in the following gallery.
The display also describes the background to the creation of some of the artist’s most important public commissions such as the monumental Single Form, which is sited outside the United Nations building in New York.
Take a tour of a selection of images showing original tools, templates and handwritten notes from Hepworth's workshop in St Ives. This material will be used in The Hepworth at Work gallery.
