Pre 1900 Gallery

The pre 1900 gallery showcases the earliest work from The Hepworth Wakefield’s permanent collection.

It includes a selection of old master drawings by artists such as Angnolo Bronzino, Annibale Carracci, Giulio Romano and Salvatore Rosa, fine oil paintings such as Nicolas van Verendael's exquisite Still life with Lobster (1678) and a rare mythological subject by the 18th century artist Jan van Huysum.

Also within this display is one of the most celebrated Victorian paintings to be found in any British collection, James Tissot’s On the Thames (1876).
