Wakefield and Yorkshire in Pictures

Fred Lawson was born in Yeadon, Leeds and married fellow-artist, Muriel Metcalf.

The couple's daughter, Sonia, is a contemporary painter of note, and a Royal Academician.

Lawson was primarily a watercolour artist, and is considered to be one of the most important painters of the Yorkshire Dales from the last century.

He was also a regular contributor to the Dalesman magazine.

He lived at Redmire, near Castle Bolton in Wensleydale.
