Due to construction work, there is currently no public access to the site at present.

However, it is possible to view the site and development progress from the existing road bridge leading in to Wakefield City Centre.

Also, you can monitor the gallery's progress over the coming months, via the live Hepcam link to the construction site.
The Hepworth Wakefield will open in Winter 2009-10.

Location and Access

Yorkshire's new art gallery and creative centre, The Hepworth Wakefield, will be located on a prominent and dramatic headland site next to the River Calder at Wakefield's historic waterfront.

The gallery site, at Bridge Street, sits within the River Calder Conservation Area at the southern gateway to Wakefield City Centre which is approx 5-10 minutes walk away.

The building is orientated to have a strong presence on the river, with the north facade meeting the water's edge, as many of the traditional buildings in the area do (eg: Calder & Hebble Navigation Warehouse).

The site is linked to the City and the Waterfront by a new footbridge, over the River Calder, and terraces, which run along the west of the building.

The building's entrance is located on the west side, taking advantage of this strong connection and the views over the river.

The footbridge and terraces are the key elements for pedestrian access.
